On May 18, Eurostat published the Sino-EU trade statistics in 2008. Data shows that in 2008 the trade volume of the 27 EU countries with China reached EUR326b, over three times of which in 2000, and China continued to be the EU’s second largest trade partner. According to the statistical report, from 2000 to 2008, the Sino-EU trade volume has grown rapidly, and export volume of the 27 EU countries to China has grown from the EUR26b in 2000 to the EUR78b in 2008; imports volume has grown from the EUR75b in 2000 to EUR248b; trade deficit the EU to China has increased from the EUR49b in 2000 to EUR169b. China’s proportion in foreign trade of the EU has more than doubled during the eight years, second only to the US, becoming the EU’s second largest trade partner. The EU’s import from China accounts for 16% of its total import volume, and the export to China accounts for 6% of its total export volume. |
